About Us
Nativgate life like a pro
COMPASS is a student-centered mobile mentoring app designed to build a virtual community that connects immigrant secondary students across Canada with adult mentors to support academic success and the educational process, encouraging them to stay in school and seek help when needed.

Our Mission
Our purpose is to help first-generation immigrant secondary students get the intellectual, social, and emotional support they need to lead successful, fulfilling lives in Canada.
Our Values

Equity and inclusion
Creating a virtual space with a culture of inclusion to make participants feel safe to share their diverse experiences and to create a more equitable community through those shared experiences (Ridings & Gefen, 2004).

Trust
Establishing strong social bonds through frequent and prolonged communication to build trust between participants and their acceptance of app usage (Mezgar, 2009).

Student agency
Helping students explore their prior knowledge through self-reflection to initiate student agency, honour who they are, and make them aware of the other kinds of learning that occur beyond the classroom (Holt, 2020).
Our Objectives
To be an effective educational tool for secondary schools across Canada, COMPASS aims to fulfill the following objectives:

-
Create a virtual community for young and old first-generation immigrants that promotes social learning through knowledge sharing,
-
Reduce feelings of isolation felt by newcomer immigrant students by enhancing positive social interactions and encouraging networking, and
-
Play a motivating role by offering students a more personalized learning experience with the goal of empowering students to be in charge of their learning.
